Residents of Nashville, Tennessee who were fulfilling their civic duty on were shocked to find Taylor Swift among their fellow would-be jurors.

Jurors took to Twitter to share their snaps with Taylor, and revealed that she was “happy to take selfies with us all”. “That’s why I called her”, West said addressing the conflict with Swift.

A representative for the singer did not respond to Reuters for comment on Swift’s jury duty or on West’s VMAs speech.

For her part, Swift stayed busy in the holding area, speaking with fans, signing autographs and even filming a video shout-out to one juror’s carpool.

Swift had not been nominated for an award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards but many thought her absence was down to her long-running feud with Kanye West and his wife, Kim Kardashian West. “Swift, and will serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts”, court documents regarding Swift’s lawsuit read. One fan took it upon herself to document the whole thing, taking several photos and videos of Swift interacting with the other chosen jury members.
