Justin Bieber Closes American Music Awards
43rd Annual American Music Awards Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles was the venue.
Taylor Swift and One Direction were the big winners at this year’s American Music Awards.

ABC and T-Mobile had promised before the American Music Awards that Justin Bieber would “shatter expectations”, closing the show “in a way [we’ve] never seen before”.
Bryan beat out Jason Aldean and Sam Hunt, who won new artist of the year. Even rapper and former ex, Diddy, gave a shout out to his former flame saying “Give it up for J.L.O” after her performance. But prizes for such other awards shows as the Grammys, the Billboard Music Awards, and the Country Music Association Awards are distributed by those working in the industry – for example, Grammys voters include producers and singers. The album was released just last month on October 23 via Arista Nashville, and 19 Recordings, which are the same labels she has been with since winning “American Idol”.
Toronto born-R&B singer The Weeknd was declared Favourite Male Artist (soul/R&B), and his album Beauty Behind the Madness garnered him the Favorite Album (Soul/R&B) accolade. A capella group Pentatonix sang the Star Wars theme song backed by a full-on orchestra. Blake Shelton’s new lady love performed her new song “Used to Love You” in the program proper, a song that is rumored to be about her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale.
Celine Dion performed the French classic made famous by Edith Piaf, “L’Hymne a L’Amour”, in front of a string section and a montage of images of famous Paris sites.
“Tonight we honour victims of the unimaginable violence that took place in Paris and around the world”, he said.
Nicki Minaj was also a double victor, taking home favorite artist and album – rap/hip-hop.
She won Song Of The Year, Favourite Pop/Rock Album and Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist. Jared Leto, who introduced Dion, said his band 30 Seconds to Mars recently performed at the Bataclan, the Paris concert hall where 89 people were killed in the November 13 attack.
There were duets featuring the likes of Alanis Morissette and Demi Lovato, but the show’s finale was the hit of the night, as Justin Bieber closed with three songs, including one of which he danced in the rain.
While numerous headlines will no doubt focus on the diabetes-inducing stage makeout session between Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor, the show’s saving grace was it’s packed schedule of musical performances.
Singers Carrie Underwood and Ariana Grande took home the awards for the Favourite Female Artist – Country and the Favourite Female Artist – Pop/Rock.
