Justin Bieber congratulates NHS Choir after Christmas number one joy
In the final hours of the race, Bieber’s song Love Yourself was neck-and-neck with a tune called A Bridge Over You, which was sung by a group of nurses, doctors and others from England’s National Health Service’s Lewisham and Greenwich Choir.
The Canadian pop star’s Love Yourself was ahead in the United Kingdom earlier this week during a see-saw sales battle – but on Thursday Bieber tweeted that it was “ok not to be #1” and urged fans to “do the right thing” and boost a NHS choir charity single to the coveted spot.
They beat their closest rival, Justin Bieber, to top spot by almost 31,000 sales. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
He told them to “do the right thing” and help A Bridge Over You win, conceding that “for one week it’s OK not to be number one”.
Bieber tweeted with happiness at his second-place finish.
A choir from a British hospital claimed the No. 1 spot on the charts over Justin Bieber… with a little help from the Biebs himself.
Their song is a mash-up of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel and Coldplay s “Fix You“.
When the choir was trailing behind Bieber’s Love Yourself, Beiber had tweeted: “I’m hearing this UK Christmas race is close… but @Choir_NHS single is for charity”.
“So for one week it’s OK not to be number one”.
“It’s just ridiculous that it’s the NHS versus Justin Bieber, but that’s all in the jolliness of it. You don’t expect an NHS choir to make the top 40 so to be honest, we’re [already] massively pleased”.
“I thought getting the song to number one would be a fantastic celebration of the NHS and a big morale booster as morale is low at the moment”. It’s Christmas. NHS Choir good luck.
