Justin Bieber Tells Fans To Buy Rival Single For Christmas
Selena Gomez’s ex-boyfriend has only gone and told his millions of fans to buy the NHS Choir’s single this week because it’s for charity.
Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, tweeted out an Official Charts report on Wednesday (Dec. 23), alerting Bieber and his “Love Yourself” collaborator Ed Sheeran to the close race. “Time to do the right thing boys”.
‘Tis the season for giving, and Justin Bieber is feeling charitable – urging fans to buy a charity single, instead of his. Going by midweek flashes this week, it looks to be the closest race to the top since 2009 and a genuine Christmas chart battle.
He posted: “so for 1 week it’s ok not to be #1”.
The choir is made up of NHS staff, including doctors, nurses and porters.
“It’s just ridiculous that it’s the NHS versus Justin Bieber, but that’s all in the jolliness of it”, she said.
Proceeds from sales of the NHS choir’s song, a remake of Simon and Garfunkel’s A Bridge Over Troubled Water and Coldplay’s Fix You, will go to charities including Mind and Carers UK.
The Canadian singer said he had heard the race was close between him and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS choir’s charity single, A Bridge Over You.
The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS choir was first seen on Gareth Malone’s BBC2 show Sing While You Work, where they were narrowly beaten in the final.
The annual race for Christmas number one is heating up.
Louisa Johnson’s cover of Bob Dylan’s Forever Young entered the charts at number nine – the lowest ever entry for a victor.
The cut-off point for sales and streams to be counted towards this year’s Official Christmas Chart will be midnight on December 24, Christmas Eve.
