Justin Bieber turned down $5 million to perform during the RNC
Recording artist Justin Bieber accepts the Top Male Artist award onstage during the 2016 Billboard Music Awards at T-Mobile Arena on May 22, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
But it seems when it comes to politics, the 21-year-old makes lesser mistakes.
Justin Bieber reportedly turned down $5 million to perform at a Republican National Convention event.
TMZ reported that Bieber was told the event wouldn’t be politically endorsed, and that his performance would not be an endorsement of Donald Trump or any policies relating to GOP. Being Canadian, he does not have to vote after all.
Sources “connected with [Creative Artists Agency]” told TMZ that the singer seriously considered the offer before turning it down at the request of his manager, Scooter Braun, and after he was encouraged to do so by LeBron James, whom the GOP group claimed would also be in the area. Braun welcomed Clinton, reality television star Kim Kardashian and rapper kayne West to his home in Los Angeles for a fundraiser which benefits Clinton. Knowing that risk, Bieber, in the very first minute of the negotiations, said that, if he would have accepted the offer, it wouldn´t mean that he publicly supports Trump or the Republican side, because his participation would be 100 percent nonpolitical.
It was reported that Braun mentioned to Justin that he should discuss erecting Black Lives Matter signs at the show, but the donors rejected the idea, suggesting All Lives Matter signs instead.
However, 28-year-old Efron, who just wrapped filming the new Baywatch remake, took Bieber’s notes in stride and “appreciated” the advice, the insider says.
