Justin Upton Throws Helmet In Frustration, Hits Teammate In Head
After getting caught stealing third base on Saturday night during the San Diego Padres’ game vs. the Colorado Rockies, outfielder Justin Upton retreated to the dugout and showed his displeasure with the play result by throwing his helmet.
Upton swung his helmet in disgust as he walked through the dugout toward the bat rack.
Alonso (head) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rockies.
Alonso immediately fell to the dugout floor. They might launch their glove into a bucket of gum. This is interesting because Yonder Alonso is not a catcher; he’s an infielder, mostly a first baseman.
Alonso was pretty fired up after the whole thing, and slammed whatever he could get his hands on into the ground.
Alonso was then pulled from the game as a precautionary measure.
“I made a big mistake”, Upton told reporters after the 7-5 win. “But it’s part of the game”.
“We discussed that. I don’t think you guys [need to] know what was said”. Luckily, everything checked out well.
Alonso also said that he and Upton talked about the incident and have moved on.
It looks like Alonso has a good sense of humor about the situation.
