K.J. McDaniels re-ups with Rockets
Being a restricted free agent, McDaniels didn’t draw much interest in the open market, and the Rockets finally re-signed him.
McDaniels hasn’t really been fully tested yet, but he’s a freak athlete, is young and his upside is huge.
“I had faith in myself”, McDaniels said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. And if he develops properly with the Rockets, he could be more than that. “I felt like I belonged and did a good job proving that”. He averaged 9.2 points in 52 games with the 76’ers before being traded to Houston and spending most of the remainder of the season on the Rockets bench. The city was great to me.
“It’s a blessing and I’m happy to be a part of the Rockets franchise”. The Rockets traded a 2015 second-round pick and Isaiah Canaan to the 76ers for McDaniels, who was a 2014 second-round selection by Philadelphia.
McDaniels showed tremendous potential with the Sixers but joined a playoff team that did not require him to play heavy minutes.
Marc Berman (MyFox26) says there is NO player option for the third year and it’s a straight up three-year deal. If General Manager Daryl Morey is still intent on upgrading the point guard in the starting line-up some of these assets might tempt a team looking to add some youthful talent. This upcoming season may be different for McDaniels, who could potentially see more time on the court despite a crowded wing positon.
