‘Kabali’ box office: Rajinikanth’s action film opens to huge response
As per the early estimates, Kabali collected around 3 crores on its opening day in North India.
# Highest Day 1 collections of Rs 5.2 crores in the North Indian territories on Day 1.
While Kabali has managed to do that by collecting more than Madaari, that doesn’t say much since former is an out and out commercial affair and latter is an offbeat film targeting multiplexes. Wasn’t Rajinikanth getting cold feet worrying about the response to his movie? The SRK starrer had collected Rs 44.97 crores on opening day. For the die-hard fans of Rajinikanth aka Rajini aka Thalaivar, the “first-day-first-show” is super sacred.
Tickets were all sold out for Friday’s shows across south India. According to Economic Times, the film is expected to collect over Rs 120 crore this weekend, with most of its shows having been pre-booked. As they wouldn’t settle for anything below that, ticket prices hit the sky. The makers are yet to formally confirm the news and if it turns out to be true, then it will be the highest ever figure for a Rajinikanth film as his previous movie had raked in Rs. 37 crore.
Mumbai-based trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: “If this is not EARTH-SHATTERING, what is?” Let’s have a look at Kabali 1st day collection and occupancy report in detail.
Given the kind of hype and hoopla that was generated around Kabali en route its release, it was pretty much a given that down South, film would have a record start.
Box-office collection aside, the film, which was made on a budget of Rs 100 crore, has already earned about Rs 225 crores from the sale of theatrical, audio and satellite rights.
