Kaine is the liberal who meets Clinton’s needs
The tone was a sharp contrast to the Republican convention, where the attacks against Clinton was bitingly personal, including chants of “Lock her up”.
But in Philadelphia, the home of Rocky Balboa, the chances of a fight between Clinton and Sanders forces at the Democratic Convention looks more likely. “Tim Kaine is everything that Donald Trump and Mike Pence are not”, Clinton began.
The newly minted Democratic vice presidential candidate entered the packed house to an ovation and took his usual seat in the third pew on the right before the choir kicked off the service singing “glad to be of service one more time”.
Trump was unimpressed, saying on Twitter he had watched the joint appearance and “ISIS and our other enemies are drooling”.
Justin Anstett, of West Springfield mentioned, “I’m picking on who the president is not who the vice president is because unless something bad or traumatic happens to them they won’t be on at all, they will be in the background”.
He said in Honduras he learned the values “Fe, familia, y trabajo” – faith, family, and work.
During his tenure as governor, Virginia grappled with the 2007 Virignia Tech massacre – the country’s biggest mass shooting up until that point.
On social issues such as civil rights and civil liberties, Kaine seems to be very liberal, but on economic issues “he seems a little conservative”, said Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-Manhattan. “Wonderful, very experienced, an innovator”, she said.
Neal says Kaine’s experience on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee should silence critics looking for someone with national security experience. When someone says I alone can fix it, that should set off alarm bells…
Clinton supporters received a text message and email announcing the pick before the Florida rally in an effort to boost the campaign’s list of contacts, the New York Times reported.
As a governor-turned-senator from the pivotal battleground state of Virginia, Kaine is expected to offer a political boost for Clinton among the state’s independent voters and moderate Republicans displeased with Trump. A spokeswoman for Kaine confirmed his opposition to the pact. “Trash-talks Mexican-Americans and Latinos”, Kaine said. Goldfeld supported Bernie Sanders during the primaries but is enthusiastically supporting Clinton – and now Kaine – in the general election.
“I think there are a lot stronger candidates like (Massachusetts Sen.) Elizabeth Warren or Bernie himself who could have helped to energize the left wing of the Democratic Party, ” he said.
