Kam Chancellor ends holdout
The Seattle Seahawks’ general manager John Schneider and owner Paul Allen apparently held firm on their policy; it means that the holdout was effectively a failure and Chancellor’s demands were not addressed, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.
Chancellor sent this typo-ridden text to Stephen A. Smith explaining his decision this morning.
The “Legion of Boom” member said he prays all the time and is a godly man but the biggest factor that convinced him to return was the conversations he had with his teammates during the holdout.
Chancellor’s agent, Alvin Keels, posted on Twitter that he was glad to see Chancellor back at work and, “The business side of the sport sucks at times”.
The Seahawks have gone 0-2 without Chancellor so far this season. At one point in the negotiations, the team and player were less than million apart ($900,000) when owner Paul Allen walked away from the bargaining table.
Chancellor admitted he received negative feedback from Seahawks fans who didn’t grasp what he was trying to accomplish by holding out.
In the season opener at St. Louis, Dion Bailey started at strong safety and played the entire game in a 34-31 overtime defeat.
Off the field, Chancellor challenged his teammates after a disappointing 6-4 start in 2014.
After skipping all of training camp, the preseason and the first two regular season games, Chancellor has decided to push his contract issues out of the way for now and return to a Seahawks defense that could definitely use him going forward.
With Kam back, that means the defense definitely should look much better than it has the last two weeks.
Chancellor signed a four-year, $28 million contract extension in 2013.
“I know I could play Sunday”, he said.
Lynch previously showed his support for Chancellor during the holdout when he wore Kam’s jersey during a practice.
Chancellor’s annual average salary from 2013-2017 amounts to about $7 million (AU$10 million) per year, which is among the top 10 highest-paid for the safety position.
The Seahawks are two games out of first place in the NFC West behind undefeated Arizona, and host the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
