Kane and Walker net as stylish Tottenham see off West Ham
Harry Kane grabbed two goals as Tottenham stretched their unbeaten league run to 12 matches with a 4-1 victory over West Ham.
However, former Spurs skipper Redknapp believes Pochettino’s men should aim for a top-four finish, insisting Tottenham aren’t ready to win the Premier League title – yet. But it is too early to speak about the end of the season. Too far. We are a young squad, we need to develop our way, be consistent.
“It is step by step. It’s hard to know what will happen in four or five months”.
They are probably one of the most entertaining sides to watch at the moment.
Minutes after the interval, however, they were able to make the game safe as Kane’s shot found the back of the net via a deflection off Winston Reid and Kyle Walker’s wonderful curling effort in the 83rd minute rounded off an impressive result.
“The performance was fantastic”, he said.
West Ham, who headed into this match on the back of their best ever start to a top-flight campaign after 12 games, pulled one back late on through Manuel Lanzini but this was an evening to forget for Slaven Bilic’s men.
“They are have a few very good players and I see this as just a blip in confidence”.
“The best word to describe my feelings is very proud”. “At 2-0, I said we were still in the game”.
That steel spilled over in the 66th minute when fellow England star Dele Alli squared up to Mark Noble after the West Ham skipper had caught another Three Lions star, two-goal Harry Kane, around his ankles when the ball had gone.
“It’s always the same problem”, Pochettino said.
Newly capped 19-year old Spurs and England midfielder Alli impressed in particular with his non-stop running and vision, breaking down West Ham attacks in his own half, while carving out chances for his team in the opposition’s. There’s a lot of things in his head.
“He has a strong character, his fight is there, but he needs to be calm and that is an example”.
“Tottenham are a name at home and in Europe and now we need to be clever to improve”.
He told Sky Sports: “West Ham are a mid-table team”.
Bilic strung his midfielders across the pitch in a 4-1-4-1 system, with Sakho wide on the right, in an attempt to stop Spurs centre-backs sliding passes into the feet of Alli, Christian Eriksen and fit-again Son Heung-Min, who replaced the suspended Erik Lamela.
