Kane double snatches last-gasp win for Spurs
HARRY Kane’s late brace saw West Ham United slip to their seventh Premier League defeat of the season as Tottenham Hotspur won a pulsating London derby by the odd goal in five at White Hart Lane.
Fans, reporters and pundits were all scratching their heads and comparing notes.
It was a handsome moment, but Spurs would be pegged back again.
West Ham United’s Michail Antonio celebrates scoring his side’s first goal during the Premier League match at White Hart Lane, London.
Winks, the 20-year-old midfielder, fired an early chance wide as Tottenham made the livelier start.
These clubs’ rivalry has been ramped up in recent months, with one already in a new home and the other soon to move, and West Ham’s travelling support could hardly not have noticed the towering cranes overlooking Tottenham’s fast-growing arena next door.
Slaven Bilic opted to make three changes from the side which drew 1-1 with Stoke City last time out, most notably replacing Adrian with Darren Randolph.
“People expect a lot from us, that we will play well, score goals and win the games”, Pochettino said.
He has pace, vision, quick feet, deceptive strength and apparently an eye for a goal too. The table looks much better.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino selected an attacking side, with Vincent Janssen partnering Kane in attack, while the Hammers had striker Diafra Sakho available for the first time this season.
Rose tore down the left flank and sent a powerful cross into the area, which Janssen did well to bring down, before turning with possession and forcing a save from Randolph in goal.
Imagine the heartbreak Mike Dean must have suffered after he was forced to give a penalty against his beloved Spurs.
With two minutes left on the clock, Son took the ball with his back to goal in the area, sending a low cross into the six-yard box which was parried straight to Kane by Randolph, the striker on hand to tap in for an equaliser.
At that point Spurs were still heading for their eighth winless game in a row – but more late drama was to follow moments later.
After a drab opening, the game burst into life in the 21st minute as some slack Spurs defending allowed the Hammers to take the lead.
Tottenham, who remain fifth, were not to be denied however.
Jose Mourinho is a fan of Kane and sees him as a long-term successor to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is now set to leave Old Trafford in the summer but has the option to extend for an additional year. “It’s true that we came through a very tough period, the last month was tough, but today we showed character and belief, three points is very important for us”.
The rivalry will continue but this result has been enshrined in the record books, and the memories will be cherished forever.
