Kansas City Chiefs crush Houston Texans in AFC wildcard playoff rout
The Chiefs come into the game with their own questions concerning their best playmaker in wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who left Saturday’s win over the Texans with a knee injury.
Smith, taken by the San Francisco 49ers with the number one overall pick in the 2005 draft, was not spectacular but was his usual efficient self, completing 17-of-22 passes for 190 yards, a touchdown and his first interception in four playoff contests.
Belichick said Saturday’s 30-0 dominant win over the Texans in the wild-card round pretty much followed the script of how the Chiefs have been playing.
Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, arguably the NFL’s top defensive player, presents a major problem for most teams.
With quarterback Ben Roethlisberger returning after having left with a shoulder injury from a crunching sack, Pittsburgh marched down the field.
Do you have any guess why the Kansas City Chiefs can be the victor against the New England Patriots in the next Sunday’s AFC divisional round playoff game scheduled to be held at 4:35 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium?
On the opening kickoff, Knile Davis got three good blocks around the 10-yard line and then simply outran the rest of the defenders for the 106-yard kickoff return score, the second-longest kickoff return TD in postseason history. Travis Kelce led in receiving with 128 yards in eight catches. “Everybody can play two or three positions, so it speaks to our versatility”.
Brian Hoyer got the start and was off the mark to the tune of four interceptions.
Chiefs kicker Cairo Santos added a pair of 49-yard field goals in the first half before Kansas City finally overcame the tired Texans defense with two second-half touchdowns. “I can’t sit here and say I feel sorry for a grown man. You learn and this is football, you make mistakes”.
“I know what I can do”, he said, via the AP.
The Texans were driving after the interception when Hoyer was sacked by Allen Bailey and he fumbled.
Trailing 13-0, Hoyer followed by hitting Chiefs linebacker Josh Mauga squarely in the hands.
The Chiefs mustered just 136 yards in the first half, but with the Hoyer imploding, Houston finally succumbed defensively. It was a heartbreaking loss after a tremendous season. That gave Kansas City an early seven-point lead and Houston never recovered from the big moment.
