Kansas City Chiefs’ Season Ends In New England

The reigning Super Bowl MVP carried it in for a score on the next play, reaching over the line to convert in a way Kansas City couldnt Saturday.

The bye week served the Patriots well, despite an injury scare with Rob Gronkowski’s back, and the band was finally back together Saturday night – Julian Edelman, Gronkowski, Danny Amendola, the starting five offensive linemen, and Tom Brady, the conductor.

The Patriots advance to the AFC Championship, where they will face either the Denver Broncos or the Pittsburgh Steelers, who play each other on Sunday afternoon. “We wanted to make sure we got our best personnel in for that play and we didn’t get it done”.

He said he felt good physically – “You get bumps and bruises, it’s part of the game”, he said – and wasn’t restricted in anything he did.

The New England Patriots are down a couple of linebackers against the Kansas City Chiefs. Justin Edelman, returning from foot surgery, had 10 catches for 100 yards.

Kansas City answered with Alex Smith connecting on a 10-yard touchdown pass to Albert Wilson to lift the Chiefs within 21-13.

The Kansas City Chiefs (12-5) are coming from a 30-0 win over the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round.

Brady threw 11 straight passes on an 80-yard drive down the field on the opening drive and the Patriots never trained.

On the next drive, Dezman Moses tried to take it out on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and was called for roughing the passer.

The stadium erupted in cheers of “Brady!” — just as it had four months ago when the four-time Super Bowl champion returned from his looming “Deflategate” suspension to play in the season opener.

Edelman was able to find the open space on the right side of the defense, just like he has done many times before, and caught a pass from Brady right at the first down marker for an 11-yard gain and a first down. The Chiefs are riding in an 11-game winning streak.

After Andy Reid’s team went three-and-out in the second quarter despite starting a drive at the Patriots 36-yard line, Brady was flawless on New England’s 98-yard scoring drive capped by his one-yard plunge into the end zone.

“I think he has worked his tail off”, Brady said. “We got down to the 1-yard line and ended up going backward”. “It’s football season, so there’s bumps and bruises, but you’ve got to fight through those”.

After leading this game 14-3, 21-6 and 27-13, the Patriots did not emphatically finish off the Chiefs.

The Chiefs got into the end zone for the first time late in the third quarter before Stephen Gostkowski’s pair of field goals gave the Patriots a comfortable lead again. Amid speculation that he might sit out for a series or two as punishment for last week’s off-field incident that sent him to the hospital for a reaction to synthetic marijuana, Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones started. Police said his house reeked of burnt marijuana….

Earlier in the game, when Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” was blasting over the stadium loudspeakers, the crowd – and even some of the players – started singing along when footage of Jon Bon Jovi (who was in owner Bob Kraft’s luxury box) singing to the song and pumping his fists in the air were shown on the jumbo screens.
