Kansas delegation want Medicare changes, but they won’t say ‘privatize’
President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Georgia Congressman Tom Price to be USA secretary of health and human services didn’t just send shock waves through California because of his plan to dismantle the Affordable Care Act.
The office of Michael Pompeo, Republican representative for Kansas’ 4th Congressional District and President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Central Intelligence Agency director, declined to comment.
Price has focused much of his political career on overturning the Affordable Care Act that has provided health care to millions of people who never before had insurance.
Republicans won the White House as well as keeping their majorities in both houses of Congress in elections last month, and are now busy preparing an agenda for next year after the new Congress is sworn in on January 3 and Trump takes office January 20.
“I am humbled by the incredible challenges that lay ahead and enthusiastic for the opportunity to be a part of solving them on behalf of the American people”, Price said. And he selected another veteran Republican, Elaine Chao, a former labor secretary and the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, to head the Department of Transportation. “You have to say this is actually going to improve the health care system”.
“The American Medical Association strongly supports the nomination of Dr. Tom Price to become the next Secretary of Health and Human Services”.
Instead, Price suggests an open market approach that would keep competitiveness high enough that it would drive prices down and make it easy for the poor to be covered by the law. He has practical medical, legislative and budget experience.
I cant imagine a Trump administration saying we want the bureaucrats to decide on the health care your grandmother is going to get, said Antos. And if they owe little or no income tax, they can put the balance towards the purchase of health insurance.
Price, a USA representative of the northern suburbs of Atlanta since 2005, holds staunch conservative values and identifies as a member of the Tea Party caucus.
Some larger employers are installing on-site telemedicine kiosks, where employees are able to take vitals such as their heart rate or temperature while they’re consulting with a doctor.
As they attempt to devise a strategy for fulfilling their promise to repeal and replace Obamacare, Republicans are converging on the realization that they can not do it without Democrats. “It’s clear that Washington Republicans are plotting a war on seniors next year”.
The future of the Affordable Care Act is dim given the election of Donald Trump and Republican control of Congress. Whether Americans get their insurance for 2017 through work or on the exchanges, most will lock in their plan selection before Trump takes office, and it’s unlikely that new rules in Congress would impact those choices. “Nominating Congressman Price to be the HHS secretary is akin to asking the fox to guard the hen house”.
Price authored a bill that seeks to replace the Affordable Care Act that was enacted in 2010, according to a report by Robert Pear for the New York Times.
“The ACA is hardly a failure”, Scott said in 2015. They can start with the Individual mandate wiping out some American’s tax refunds.
Why can’t Republicans just repeal and replace Obamacare on their own? He didn’t support a measure that would prevent LGBTQ discrimination or another that would expand protections for victims of domestic violence and intimate partner abuse, a major public health issue.
Well, an often overlooked part of Obamacare is a test kitchen within the Department of Health and Human Services that experiments with new ways for the government to pay for some expensive and frequently used health care services, including those three.
“I think the president-elect made a wise decision”, Beach said.
Dr. Tom Price has been serving the citizens of Georgia’s 6th Congressional District since 2005 and has chaired the Republican Study Committee (RSC) and the Republican Policy Committee.
