Kansas suspends junior guard Brannen Greene for six games
Kansas also announced that the NCAA is allowing freshman forward Cheick Diallo to travel to Maui, though he has not been cleared to play.
Self said in a release that Diallo had been cleared to travel with the team but the school has not yet received word on whether he will be eligible to play.
Greene is on pace for his best collegiate season through just two games as he is averaging 12 points in 11.5 minutes per contest.
The No. 4 Jayhawks are traveling to Hawaii to play in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational starting Monday.
In Greene’s absence, fellow perimeter reserve Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk could see more playing time in relief of starters Frank Mason, Devonte Graham and Wayne Selden. Greene then underwent surgery in April to fix a torn labrum in his hip, keeping him out of the Jayhawks’ trip to the World University Games over the summer.
It’s unclear what specifically led to Greene’s suspension, but the junior guard posted the following crypic message on his Twitter account after it was announced: “Don’t talk unless you know”. The tweet was later deleted.
