Kanyakumari-Bangalore Island Express derails in Vellore, 13 hurt
Chennai: At least 10 people were injured when several coaches of the Kanyakumari-Bangalore Island Express derailed in the early morning hours of Friday near Tirupathur in Tamil Nadu. Police said that arrangements are being made to transport the passengers to Bengaluru.
A senior railway official said that the Southern Railway has cancelled 11 trains between Chennai-Bengaluru, Jolarpettai-Bengaluru and Arakonam-Bengaluru due to the derailment. The passengers of the affected train are being brought to Bengaluru by 7 buses and also by special train from Jolarpet. PR Railways Anil Saxena said relief and rescue operations are in full swing and medical aid is being given to the injured. The service of Chennai-Mysore Shatabdi Express was partially cancelled, the release said.
Meanwhile, railways announced complete or partial cancellation of about 15 services, including the Chennai- Bangalore double decker express.
Train number 16614 between Coimbatore-Rajkot has been diverted via Tirupattur, Jolarpettai, Katpadi and Renigunta.
