Kanye West Announces Casting Call For Yeezy Season 4
Kanye West was applauded for his diverse models at last year’s New York Fashion Week.
The Life of Pablo singer posted a casting call on his Twitter account yesterday, calling for only “multiracial women” to apply for the opportunity.
Yet with the undoubtable success of previous Yeezy shows, and the fact that it has gained unprecedented recognition within the fashion sphere, (Anna Wintour is a permanent fixture at the shows) women queued around the block for the casting in NY.
“Multiracial = ethnically ambiguous = Amber Rose-ish = Kardashian-y = mixed = no Black women allowed”, the user wrote.
In one meme, a woman said, “Honey, you’ve got a big storm comin'”. He also asked that the models not wear any makeup and instead just “come as you are”.
In an industry known for its exclusivity and lack of diversity, the rapper and fashion designer’s latest casting call doesn’t help the situation.
Some users even poked fun at Yeezy’s tweet, asking how they, too, can become a “multiracial woman”, and if they needed to bring DNA reports to the audition.
One frustrated social media observer told West he is the “absolute worst”.
Others joked about how exactly Kanye would verify applicants’ “multiracial” status, short of ancestry data.
September is officially here and with it Fashion Month. “We have put our heart and soul into our show, and should not be stepped on like this”.
A rep for West didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
