Regardless of whether’s Kanye’s appearance was a calculated publicity stunt, advance campaigning for the 2020 presidential election or simply Kanye being Kanye, it’s pretty much a given viewers will watch it unfold when Idol returns for its swan song season in January 2016.

It has been the launch pad of a few of music’s biggest names, but this superstar made a decision to hit reverse on his career just for one day.

Kim Kardashian posted a pic of the whole thing to her Instagram account, which you can see below.

Host Ryan Seacrest also shared a behind the scenes snapshot of what was apparently a successful audition.

And if his journey to higher office doesn’t work out, at least he’s got a ticket to Hollywood with American Idol to fall back on.
