Kanye West to Receive VMA Video Vanguard Award
In advance of Sunday’s “MTV Video Music Awards“, MTV announced today that it has created a special emoji version of fashion designer Jeremy Scott’s made-over Moonman statuette that will pop up in Twitter posts that include the hashtag #VMA or #VMAs.
There’s no doubt that Kanye has made an indelible impact in videos over the course of his decade-long career, though it should be noted that he has not won an award for his work since the 2009 incident.
Throughout his career, West has blended musical and visual artistry to powerful effect.
This won’t be the first time West will be touching the Video Vanguard award. MTV praised West for his already iconic videos for “Jesus Walks”, the animated “Heartless” video and the recent “Bound 2” video.
West joins the likes of past winners like Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Britney Spears, and Justin Timberlake in accepting the award.
Taylor Swift leads this year’s nominations with nine Moonmen in her sights, but Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé follow close behind with six and five respectively.
The VMAs will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, with Miley Cyrus as host, and Gossip Cop will have full coverage.
Stay tuned this week for more exciting VMA announcements!
