Karachi operation not against any political party: Interior Minister
Talking to reporters, Khalid Maqbool said the minister was apprised that the operation had been politicised and it was only targeting MQM activists.
They discussed prevailing situation in Sindh particularly operation in Karachi.
Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui told The Nation that his party had number of reservations regarding the Rangers’ recent raids on the MQM offices and its missing persons.
Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday said to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) delegation that the Karachi operation, being conducted by Rangers, is under the rules and regulations, thesenlive reported.
“Peace in Karachi is our collective responsibility and is in national interest”, said Nisar. The interior Minister further said that Rangers were carrying out an operation against criminals in accordance with the law and mandate given to them; hence the operation was not launched for the goal to push MQM or any other political party against the wall.
The members of the delegation, including Maulana Ameen Shaheedi, Asad Abbas Asadi and Nasir Sheerazi, discussed matters related to the security of the Shia community.The minister said the government’s top priority was to provide complete security to Shias and remove their reservations.
“Political forces must back the operation in the greater national interest”, he said.
