Karachi operation to succeed at all costs: PM
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday held a groundbreaking ceremony for two controversial Chinese nuclear plants near Karachi, which are set to add 1,100 megawatts to the country’s electric grid.
“In this manner, the legislature had no other alternative however to move Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to some protected spot”.
Upon his arrival to Karachi, the premier was received by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
Mushahidullah presented his clarification to the prime minister over the BBC interview in which he accused former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt. General Zaheerul Islam of hatching a conspiracy against the government and military leadership to seize power during the sit-in of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) previous year.
China in April announced it would invest $46 billion in infrastructure, energy and transport projects in Pakistan as part of an ambitious project dubbed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The Prime Minister said the Government wants MQM to return to assemblies.
“Two new nuclear power plants, K2 and K3 will be built near Kanupp [Karachi Nuclear Power Plant] which was built 43 years ago”, Sharif said.
Top security officials will brief the meeting about the ongoing law and order situation in the province.
IG police informed the premier that the CCTV footage of the attack on Godil had been sent to London for clarification.
“One out of every four criminals is granted bail”, he said.
The PM is also going to preside over a high level meeting at Governor House where he will be specially briefed over Tuesday’s gun attack on MQM MNA Rashid Godil who is under treatment in Liaqat National Hospital.
Following the apex committee meeting, PM Nawaz also addressed representatives of Karachi’s Parsi community.
He said it was the continuity of this cooperation that has led to addition of more nuclear power plants in the country with the Chinese cooperation.
The Prime Minister said the frequency of incidents of target killing, kidnapping for ransom, and extortion have decreased manifold in the city.
