Karisma Kapoor files dowry harassment case against husband and mother-in-law
The couple, who filed a mutual consent divorce petition in the city family court, disagreed on some issues at their final hearing a few days ago, the report said. Mid Day reported that the couple had earlier filed for divorce with mutual consent, but Kapoor later withdrew her consent saying her husband did not meet certain financial commitments.
Following an application filed by actor Karisma Kapoor accusing her estranged husband Sunjay Kapur and her mother-in-law Rani Surinder Kapur of mental cruelty and harassment, Khar police registered a case Thursday. Following her allegation of being mentally harassed by the mother and son, the police recorded Karisma’s statement based on which they have lodged an FIR under the dowry section – 498 (A): husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty – and Section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
Karisma and Sunjay’s divorce case is presently pending before the Bandra family court.
Karisma-Sunjay tied the knot in 2003 and have two kids, Samaira and Kiaan, whose custody is an important element in this legal battle.
Sanjay alleged that Karishma had failed to be a dutiful wife, daughter-in-law and mother and that she married him for money.
Karisma said that she hasn’t asked for money from Kapur for herself, but has demanded more than Rs 10 lakh a month for the couple’s children.
Karishma’s lawyer are likely to respond on March 3 when the next hearing is taken up.
Sunjay has also filed an application at the Supreme Court seeking to transfer the case to Delhi, stating that there’s a threat to his life from underworld don Ravi Pujari in Mumbai.
