Karni Sena’s Film About Director’s Mother
Addressing a press conference in Chittorgarh, Govind Singh Khangarot, the district president of Karni Sena, said the film would be directed by Arvind Vyas and its scriptwriting process had already started.
Before the movie release, Karni Sena has been protesting against the release and tried hard to instigate people against it.
What are your thoughts on Karni Sena making a movie on Bhansali’s mother?
Many people said that prior intimation would have prevented them from going to the theatre in the hope of watching the film.
Hundreds of bike-borne Karni Sena activists took a whirlwind tour of the main streets of Jaipur city and they raised slogans against the cast of Padmaavat. “If any theatre screens the film, there will be aggressive protests”. He said it was the state’s duty and obligation to maintain law and order, and it could not use its machinery to prohibit a film’s exhibition citing risk to public order.
Exhibitors in two other BJP territories – Haryana and Uttar Pradesh – are reluctant to act.
Political observer Gulzar Singh Markam said the controversy was politically motivated to suit the BJP, which controls the government in New Delhi and 19 of 29 states in the country. “But we will continue our protests till the film is taken down from cinema halls”, he said, stressing that they would never resort to violence. Many cinema halls have been vandalised, yesterday protesters protesting against Padmaavat release, attacked a school bus in Gurugram, there were children sitting in the bus. They claim that the film distorts history and presents Rani Padmavati – a revered 14th century Rajput queen famed for beauty and valour – in a poor light and hurts Rajput sentiments. Road traffic was disrupted for hours in the area following the violent protest by youths belonging to the Rajput community who had their faces covered.
Karni Sena chief Thakur Kushalpal was on Saturday arrested by the Haryana police in link with the incidents of violence during the release of movie “Padmaavat“.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Anand Kumar said here on Thursday that there was no untoward incident reported from anywhere in the state though some sporadic violence was witnessed on Wednesday.
