The Pakistan Government has said that it is in line with its commitment to New Delhi to effectively counter and eradicate terrorism.
The fact that Pakistan has promised to act on leads without resorting to the usual game of dossier-dossier is a sign of how things have changed. “We have extended our deepest condolences to the government and people of India”.
India has maintained that if Pakistan fails to act against the perpetrators, there will be no further talks between the two countries. “We are ready to cooperate with Indian authorities to deal with this common challenge”, said a senior government official while requesting anonymity.
The Pakistani government, the Pakistani people very much understand the threat in Washington, Mr Kirby said.
“We want to see the government of Pakistan continue to press the fight against terrorists, all terrorists, and to meet their own expectations that they’re not going to discriminate among groups”.
The Foreign Office statement – second in three days – said the challenge of terrorism called for strengthening ‘our resolve to a cooperative approach.’ “Living in the same region and with a common history, the two countries should remain committed to a sustained dialogue process”, said Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilluah. “That was a little over a year ago, I believe”, he said, referring to horrific Taliban attack on a Peshawar school.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a call this afternoon from Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif regarding the terrorist attack on the Pathankot airbase.
The attack on the Pathankot airbase started before dawn on Saturday and the Indian security forces were working on Monday to carefully defuse grenades in the final stages of an operation to secure the vast air base near the border with Pakistan.
The Foreign Office’s reconciliatory statement is aimed at sending a clear message to India that Pakistan is ready to go the extra mile in order to ensure that the peace process does not get derailed by the Pathankot incident.
