Kasich keeps it positive in final days before New Hampshire
And, as of this week, there were two candidates we haven’t profiled recently who seem to have a some shot at that second slot-Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who is in second place in New Hampshire, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
He’s pitching himself Tuesday as a candidate who can deliver on his promises of bringing conservative reforms to Washington because he’s done it before.
It’s not rare for Kasich to get emotional on the trail – He choked up in front of a small crowd in August when he got the endorsement of a local state senator and was talking about how much his rise in New Hampshire that month meant to him.
“That makes New Hampshire wide open”, he said, adding that Kasich is the person who fits the bill for New Hampshire voters.
“I hated that woman, but if she was alive today, I would call her and thank her”, Kasich said.
The Republican candidate held his 88th town hall event in the state in Portsmouth. Gov. Kasich’s bigger problem, as Rothenberg notes, is that “he continues to be the favorite Republican candidate of Democrats, liberals and members of the media”. “Why don’t we just tell people what we’re for?”
Trump came in second behind Cruz in Monday’s leadoff Iowa caucuses which he had previously described on Twitter as a “long-shot great finish”.
The Republican poll by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center had Trump with 30 percent, ahead of Cruz at 12 percent, followed by Rubio at 11 percent.
John Kasich skipped campaigning in Iowa over the weekend, instead traveling to the Granite State, where he hopes to stand out amid the crowded Republican field during the first-in-the-nation primary February 9.
Donald Trump isn’t shy about boasting, but the Republican presidential front-runner says he also has a humble side.
“Beware of bombast”, he told New Hampshire voters.
“I could see his support dissipating with the loss in Iowa, and who knows what’s going to happen?”
A previous tweet posted by the billionaire businessman accused the Cruz campaign of telling Iowa voters that Ben Carson was quitting the race so he could steal Carson votes. “So I’m here giving you what I would need to do to govern, not to get elected”. State Rep. Jeff Rezabek, R-Clayton, just returned from campaigning for the governor.
“Young people care about this issue more than any other issue”, Kasich said. Having lived in OH while he was governor, I know him as a union-busting, voting rights-denying, reproductive rights-restricting fracking enthusiast.
“New Hampshire is fortunate to have a strong, principled senator in Kelly Ayotte, who stood up and cast a courageous vote in support of the Violence Against Women Act”, New Day for America spokeswoman Connie Wehrkamp said in a statement Sunday.
