Kasich poised to enter GOP race Tuesday
This is Kasich’s second run for the White House.
Although no official announcement has been made, Kasich already has drawn commentary from backers and critics alike and has been endorsed by state Auditor Dave Yost. “Nobody else can say they balanced the federal budget, have executive experience running a major state, and have the kind of foreign policy experience he has”.
Unions that turned back an effort by Kasich and fellow Republicans to limit public workers’ collective bargaining rights say Kasich’s successes have come at a cost to local governments and schools, and that new Ohio jobs lack the pay and benefits of the ones they replaced.
John Kasich will jump into the crowded race Tuesday with a campaign announcement and formal launch.
Polls show Mr. Kasich, who also launched a short-lived presidential bid in 1999, has work to do. Mr. Kasich, the married father of twin daughters, views many issues through the prism of his Protestant faith, framing his mission to help “people who live in the shadows” as a moral imperative.
Kasich could face some of the same troubles with the base that have dogged Bush.
While Kasich would appear to be on the outside looking in for the debate here in Cleveland, odds are this announcement will catapult him into the top 10 and he would qualify for the main event which will be broadcast on Fox News on August 6th.
“It’s a style that plays well up here”, said Tom Rath, a GOP strategist in New Hampshire and senior adviser to Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign.
“I think he has bigger problems with the conservative base than he realizes”, said Mackowiak. Kasich is quite popular in Ohio but was at rock bottom following his first election as governor because of the political debacle of Senate Bill Five.
Rath noted that about one-third of New Hampshire primary voters could be self-described independent voters, giving the electorate a more moderate flavor. “I’ve given you my answer”.
