Kasich to leave SC before results arrive
“No disrespect to someplace where I’m not, but I’ve got to go where I think is the most fertile ground”, Kasich recently told The New York Times . “She said, well I’m going”. The article says Kasich will “spend most of the day in Massachusetts” attending a rally and then a fundraiser.
Speaking to reporters after a town hall meeting at Clemson University just two days before the South Carolina Republican presidential primary, Kasich acknowledged he also wants to build a wall along part of the border, although he suggested the border could also be controlled through technology or other measures recommended by authorities.
That’s due to superdelegates, the party insiders who can support the candidate of their choice, regardless of whom the voters back in the primaries.
“The pope, in terms of his overall message, has been one of love and compassion”, Kasich said.
The Green Mountain State, which holds its primary on March 1, may offer Kasich his best shot at scoring an out-and-out win before the primary rolls into his home state on March 15.
Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas came in second in the poll with 18 percent, followed by Rubio, Dr. Ben Carson with 8 percent, Kasich, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who lags at 4 percent.
John Kasich said Tuesday he won’t change laws on marriage equality as president because the U.S. Supreme Court ruling past year was the “end of” discussion on the issue, according to a report in NBC News.
“Well, we’re not changing any laws”, Kasich said. “After South Carolina votes the race moves on to other states including MA, where we will hit the ground running”.
Meanwhile, Kasich is trailing in SC where the RealClear Politics average has him polling at 9 percent, fifth out of the six remaining candidates.
The poll shows voters give Kasich high ratings for honesty, but not so much for leadership – or the likelihood that he could beat a Democrat.
