Kate Middleton Dons Black Lace Dress at Festival of Remembrance
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge yesterday attended the annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall to honour the war dead.
On Sunday the Queen will be joined by her husband the Duke of Edinburgh and Prime Minister David Cameron to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in London.
The royals heard several moving stories from service members such as 94-year-old veteran Bob Hucklesby who recounted his experience of being a prisoner in the Second World War, over 70 years ago.
The couple was spotted sitting in the royal box along with Prince Phillip and the Queen.
Prince Harry also marked his presence at the event.
It is the second year that the tower – best known for its clock and Big Ben bell – has been used in this way to commemorate those who perished in the First World War.
He said: “It is vital that we go on remembering”. The charity raises funds to help war veterans and the members of their family, and is also behind the country’s omnipresent red poppy pins.
This year marks a number of other significant anniversaries in the UK’s military history, including the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
Closing the evening, The Last Post rang out in the theatre, and during the minutes of silence, poppy leaves symbolically drifted from the ceiling.
The annual Festival of Remembrance is one of London’s most important annual events, and pays tribute to those from both contemporary and ancient times who have made great sacrifices for the country.
The service concluded with traditional prayers, hymns and blessings before an enthusiastic rendition of God Save the Queen.
