Kate Middleton dons Princess Diana’s legendary tiara on her head
The tiara is one of three Kate owns, the Cambridge Lover’s Knot, which used to be a favourite of William’s mother Princess Diana.
The tiara is not the only piece of jewellery Kate wears that once belonged to Diana.
She wore the Cambridge Lovers Knot for the first time at the State Opening of Parliament in November 1981 and then on many occasions afterwards at home and overseas. It was one of two tiaras she wore on a regular basis while married to Prince Charles.

She wore it for a glittering white tie diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace. Middleton was accompanied to the event by husband Prince William, the elder of Princess Diana’s sons.
Duchess Kate channeled the people’s princess for one of Buckingham Palace’s biggest receptions of the year. Queen Mary left it to the Queen in her will, and she wore it at multiple events, as did Diana. Tuesday marked only the fourth time Duchess Kate has worn a tiara, and the first time she has worn Diana’s headpiece. Diana wore it often, though reportedly complained that it gave her a headache.
Buckingham Palace states it “reflects the Queen’s importance in the country’s diplomatic relations” and all senior members of the royal family, who do not have prior engagements, will attend. There is much speculation as to whether or not Queen Elizabeth has given the Love Knot tiara to Duchess Kate or if it was merely on loan for the night. Prince William told the Big Issue they will go to church and exchange gifts Christmas Day, saying George will be “bouncing around like a rabbit” with excitement.
