Kate Middleton Earns Her Advanced Open Water Diving Certification
Get ready, Charlotte! Of course it’ll be a few years yet before the kids can actually join their royal parents under the waves, but I think it’s awesome that Kate is getting herself ready for the eventuality – AND that she’s out there passing diving certification tests three months after popping out her second kid!
According to a new report from the UK’s The Telegraph, the mother to three-month-old Princess Charlotte and two-year-old Prince George has obtained her Professional Association of Diving Instructors Advanced Open Water Diver qualification and is thus able to dive 30 meters into the deep blue.
It also means she can now dive with her husband, Prince William, who has had his scuba qualifications for some time and is the president of the British Sub-Aqua Club. “Last summer while diving with BSAC, The Duke of Cambridge suggested George may also one day follow in his footsteps, so we hope in the future the whole family may share the same passion for scuba diving”.
Kate is a well-known fan of tennis, sailing, skiing and hockey.
Officials from the Royal Palace confirmed that the duchess has successfully passed PADI qualifications and that diving “is a sport she very much enjoys alongside the duke”. Advanced divers need to carry equipment including a compass and a knife to be used in emergencies, such as becoming caught up in fishing nets.
During her diving course, which is said to have been located off Mustique in the Carribbean, the Duchess learnt skills in underwater navigation, buyoncy control, underwater photography, fish identification and how to cope in extreme depths. “They’re quite the sportsmen”, she told The Telegraph.
