Kate Upton slams Major League Baseball after fiancé Justin Verlander doesn’t win pitching award
Independent reporting isn’t cheap to produce, even if it’s free to consume.
The chances of the Cubs’ Hendricks and Lester could have been hindered by the Cubs’ run to the playoffs.
Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell appeared on WEEI’s Hot Stove Show on Wednesday and he indicated Pablo Sandoval could receive some time at DH during the 2016 season. Scherzer won the 2013 American League Cy Young award while a member of the Detroit Tigers. Verlander actually had the edge in first-place votes with 14, but an 18-2 margin in second-place votes tilted the ballot Porcello’s way.
“For the writers to choose me for everything I was able to accomplish this year, I’m so grateful”, Scherzer said on the MLB Network broadcast.
If you’re going to take this year’s voting as a sign more voters believe in wins-Porcello and National League victor Max Scherzer led the two leagues in that much-maligned category-you have to acknowledge Porcello won mostly because a large majority of voters had him as their second choice. In 2016, he led the NL in innings, strikeouts, games started and wins.
“His performance this October versus last October was an obvious, significant step forward”. There was no Clayton Kershaw-type whose season was so dominant that voters could simply write his name in without thinking and move on to a tougher question or a sound night’s sleep.
Scherzer is the first Washington pitcher to win the Cy Young Award since baseball returned to the District in 2005. But now he’s really controlling the pace, the tempo. Well, if you’re anything like Kate Upton, it probably makes for good content.
“He’s been lights-out. Consistent. I knew the basic lines we all had”, Porcello said. “Every time he’s been asked to take the ball and do his job, he (did) it”.
Scherzer led the majors with 284 strikeouts and topped the league with 20 wins. He’s the first Red Sox pitcher to win the Cy Young award since Pedro Martinez in 2000.
The voting was much closer in the American League, where Porcello, 27, beat out Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander by five points, the second closest of any Cy Young Award election since ballots permitted voting for more than one pitcher in 1970. “To win the award over a former teammate, somebody who was a veteran I looked up to in the early days in my career, that’s pretty cool”.
Scherzer has five years remaining on hefty contract. The keys for Scherzer were cutting his walks (from 2.7 per 9 innings to 2.0) and home runs allowed (from 1.8 per 9 innings to 0.9). (Kluber finished third, with Britton fourth and Sale fifth). How would you react?
