Kate Winslet to star in Lee Miller film
Eager to keep the biopic train rolling along, Kate Winslet has inked a deal to topline a new film focusing on Elizabeth “Lee” Miller, a celebrated fashion model, artist and war correspondent.
Miller’s son, Antony Penrose, wrote a book titled “The Lives of Lee Miller” that will serve as the basis of the indie drama, which will be produced by Troy Lum and Andrew Mason of Hopscotch Features.
The words “Kate Winslet period drama” work like magic, and if you’re a fan of the actress’ period film work, then you’re going to be excited about this news.
Miller was a muse and collaborator to famous artists such as Pablo Picasso and Man Ray, an acclaimed photojournalist documenting a few of the most important moments in history, a witness to wartime atrocities and one of the most glamorous women of her time. After the outbreak of World War II, she began to photograph the significant news items of the day, including the London blitz, the liberation of Paris, and the concentration camps at Buchenwald and Dachau in Germany. Variety first reported on the project. She also appeared in Cocteau’s avant garde film The Blood of a Poet, in which she portrayed a statue that comes to life.
Winslet can next be seen as Joanna Hoffmanin alongside Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs in Danny Boyle’s biopic about the Apple creator. Recently she has been playing the villain in Lionsgate’s Insurgent movies, and she is part of the ensemble cast of the upcoming crime thriller Triple 9.
