Kavanaugh protest deeply personal for Ford supporters
I think Brett Kavanaugh is probably lying about having sexually assaulted Christine Blasey Ford, and many other things, and has decided from the beginning to say what he has to in order to fulfill his career ambition. She was 15 at the time.
President Trump threw his support behind beleaguered Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh tonight saying the judge’s testimony was “powerful, honest, and riveting”. They added that Trump expressed some frustration at the process – and the staff work – that led Kavanaugh to this point.
“I am innocent of this charge”, Kavanaugh said, according to his written opening statement.
That interview was the first time Ford spoke publicly and in detail about the alleged attack, which she said she had kept largely to herself for decades and only shared with her husband, Russell Ford, in 2012.
Turning to Kavanaugh, he said, “I hope you’re on the Supreme Court”.
Some on Twitter made fun of the notion that who paid for the polygraph was a big deal, while others said that polygraph testing was not a reliable way of determining the truth. By the end of her testimony, even Sen. Nancy French, a conservative Christian writer, cried as she watched Ford in a dark room in her home with her dogs.
“I can be persuaded also”, Trump said.
Blasey Ford claims Kavanaugh tried to rape her at a party in 1982 when he was a 17-year-old high school student and she was 15.
It has become something of a cliche to say that the United States has become increasingly tribal in the era of President Donald Trump, with each side in its own corner, believing what it chooses to believe and looking for reinforcement in the media and politics. This is what terrified me the most and has had the most lasting impact on my life. New Jersey Senator Cory Booker called her actions in coming forward “heroic” in a dramatic speech which appeared to prompt Ford to cry.
Ford gave a straightforward response when Sen.
The judiciary panel’s 11 Republicans – all men – let Rachel Mitchell, a veteran sex crimes prosecutor from Arizona, ask their questions. Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat and the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee. You know, you had the testimony both from (Christine Blasey Ford) and from (Brett) Kavanaugh. A Kavanaugh friend stood by and they both laughed uproariously during the incident, she testified.
“This has been going on at college campuses among elite white boys forever”, she said. I would never do to them what you’ve done to this guy. “Two friends having a really good time with one another”. “Since my nomination in July, there’s been a frenzy in the left, to come up with something – anything, to block my confirmation”.
Kavanaugh, 53, has strenuously denied assaulting anyone and insists he is the victim of a “smear campaign”.
At a news conference in NY a day before Kavanaugh was set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Trump pledged to listen to the testimony of Kavanaugh’s accuser and even said he was open to changing his mind about his nominee.
“There has been a frenzy to come up with something – anything, no matter how far-fetched or odious – that will block a vote on my nomination. These are last-minute smears, pure and simple”.
Ms Feinstein criticised Republicans who have rejected Democratic demands to slow Mr Kavanaugh’s confirmation process and let the FBI investigate all the allegations, saying: “What I don’t understand is the rush to judgment”.
