KD Show: Durant goes off against old Oklahoma City team
Stephen Curry added 21 points and seven assists as the Warriors cruised to their fourth straight victory since a season-opening loss to San Antonio. I couldn’t believe they could make that work. Durant dominated the game finishing with 39 points leading his team to win with 122-96 on the score sheets.
Until then we have more than enough super-teams to keep it interesting.
Before the game, Golden State coach Steve Kerr called Durant-vs. Victor Oladipo buried four of his six 3-point attempts and led the Thunder with 21 points.
There is a rivalry here, sort of, that will probably exist between whichever two teams Durant and Westbrook play on for the rest of their National Basketball Association careers’. -Westbrook a “subplot”, suggesting that the first game between the former All-Star teammates was secondary to the game itself. The two may not be reacquainting so easily. If Westbrook can’t make something happen by diving into the lane they don’t really have an offense, and without Serge Ibaka or Durant’s long limbs, they don’t have much rim protection either. He blew them all off quickly. This was Oklahoma City’s chance to show it was still standing tall, even with Durant having exchanged uniforms in the offseason.
Later in the game, the former Thunder wing who signed with the Warriors this summer went back and forth with Enes Kanter, who sat on the bench talking at his former teammate.
There were no handshakes or daps. “We’ll move on, get ready for the next one”. In total he drained 39 points to assist the Warriors.
Just when it looked like the Golden State Warriors were finding their groove on both ends of the floor, they went out and looked lost in a curious setback at the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. Golden State took the last eight in the series, going back to a first-round sweep in the 2015 playoffs.
The beginning of this game belied the eventual outcome, with the Warriors, as has been their standard this season, coming out of the gates a little tentatively and the Thunder racing out to an early double-digit lead. They were aiming to extend their flawless season further against the Warriors, but that would not happen.
The frosty relationship between the pair took another twist as they failed to acknowledge one another in any way during the encounter. It was also interesting because Kanter took several not-so-subtle shots at KD on social media over the summer after he made a decision to sign with the Warriors.
But this one was all about Durant on a night when No. 35 and his new teammates redeemed themselves after a 129-100 flop in their season opener October 25 against San Antonio that sent fans for the exits with more than 5 minutes left.
To be fair to the Thunder, who now drop to 4-1, they were playing the second half of a road back-to-back that certainly impacted their ability to live with a sharp Warriors side who have now won four straight to improve to 4-1. They play again in January, February, and March.
Can the Warriors win five in a row? Claims of being tossed around by his former team buddy, Kevin Durant has surfaced as well.
