Keane: Arsenal players want six packs, not titles
The start of the football season hasn’t even begun yet, but that has not stopped Roy Keane having a yet another dig at Arsenal.
Last season, under Jose Mourinho, Chelsea – built around a strong spine of hard-working, physical players – stifled their closest rivals to canter to the league title and Keane said the Stamford Bridge side remained the benchmark in the upcoming season.
“The bottom line is that if Chelsea’s players show the same hunger and desire that they did last year then they’ll win the league”.
However it is widely accepted that Arsenal players do take more than most and they garnered a lot of criticism for the way they celebrated after beating Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad in January. “Instead of focusing on the Premier League, it’s all about how their bodies look, how their hair is, more so than winning football matches”.
“But they also have got one or two players who are more interested in selfies and six packs, guys who are trying to get their pictures taken every day of the week”. United will no doubt be better next year, they’ll need to be stronger out of the blocks, but if I was a betting man, which I’m not, I’d still go with Chelsea.
“They’ve lots of good players”.
“United bought so many good players this year and last year, but it’s hard to gel”.
‘I don’t think the spine of United is as strong as Chelsea’s.
Reloading, Keane added: “However, I don’t think United’s spine is strong enough”. I still think they need a centre half maybe.
What then of Manchester City, twice champions and twice runners-up in the past four seasons?
“I am putting in the work off the pitch and fitness is one of the most important things in the game, it gives you the platform and allows you to do the things you want to do”.
Republic of Ireland assistant Roy Keane has said that Arsenal’s players are more interested in their looks than winning titles.
“Look at all the players they’ve bought over the last couple of years”.
Keane’s rivalry with the Gunners extends to his playing days, and it doesn’t seem to have withered one bit.
They each shared a common cause: winning.
