Keep, but modify, Electoral College
Since the vote, Trump’s message has alternated between appealing for unity and railing against his opponents and the media. And they are going to be voting in a few years – look out!
The Electoral College system has come under fire because Trump, a Republican, won the presidency despite losing the popular vote. So, in reality, neither presidential candidate set out to get the popular vote. “Please be aware that all 1,521 MI cities and townships completed ballot counting and reported unofficial results by the morning of Wednesday, 9 Nov”.
The presidential election results are still the same. “Quite honestly, Mr. Trump is not the president-elect”, said Polly Baca, an elector from Colorado, noting that Trump is not technically president-elect until the electoral votes have been compiled by the Electoral College.
Now the criticisms begin of how Hillary Clinton ran her race. Some states do not mandate which way their electors must vote, however.
Jill Stein, the presidential candidate for the Green Party, is trying to raisemore than $4 million for recounts in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
Mr Trump repeatedly pledged to build an “impenetrable, physical, tall” wall spanning 1,000 miles between the United States and Mexico if he was elected as president. She lost Wisconsin by 27,000 votes.
The same thing happened in 2000, when then Democratic nominee Al Gore won the popular vote by almost 544,000 but lost to former president George W. Bush on electoral votes. We are advised that “every vote counts”.
Although Clinton admitted her defeat, some of her supporters believe that the game is not over yet. Also noteworthy: Clinton’s 64-plus million votes is nearing in on the 65.9 million Barack Obama won in 2012.
The small group of Democratic electors initially hoped to bring enough of their Republican counterparts on side to keep Mr Trump short of the 270 votes he needs to be named president. “Campaigning is much different!”
For 2016, multiplying the percentage of votes each candidate received {in each state} times the number of electoral votes {in each state} results in the following: Clinton 256.985 and Trump 253.482.
