Keith Lamont Scott: What we know about man shot by Charlotte police
Chief Kerr Putney said it would be inappropriate to present footage of “a victim’s worst day” for public consumption. It is not known when the family will view the shooting video, only that they will see it sometime Thursday.
Putney said the city now has more resources to deal with problems, following the declaration of a state of emergency and the arrival of the North Carolina National Guard and more officers from the State Highway Patrol.
“So I’ve had discussions with the District Attorney, Mr. Murray indicating the investigation is independent and our team is doing that at this point in time”, McCrory said.
So while the video does not appear to show Keith Lamont Scott pointing the gun at anyone it does show him holding it.
“After watching the videos”, the attorney said, “the family again has more questions than answers”.
Police sources confirmed to NBC station WCNC of Charlotte that a witness’ photo taken moments after the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott does show a gun at his feet.
So far 17 police officers and nine civilians have been wounded in the unrest, and 44 arrests have been made by the police.
Meanwhile, hotel and restaurant employees and security guards have started cleaning up dozens of broken windows.
Police have been using tear gas, rubber bullets and flash grenades to break up some of the protests.
At least seven people were hospitalized with minor injuries, WSOC reported.
Protesters moved downtown from Trade Street to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Law enforcement and city officials have called for peace and patience while authorities investigate the shooting.
The slogan “Black Lives Matter”, coined in response to the killings of hundreds of black people by United States law enforcement, was spray-painted on windows. But he added that, “every once in a while you see people doing it the wrong way”.
Last week, Terence Crutcher was killed by police after reportedly experiencing auto troubles.
Police were serving an arrest warrant on another person when they say they saw Mr Scott get out of a auto with a handgun.
The “version of the truth” police gave on Wednesday morning stated that police approached Scott after seeing him get out of his auto with a handgun and then get back in. It’s unclear when or if the video might be released publicly.
“In these days of ready video and audio recordings, we believe that reviewing these recordings can and will help both sides get to the truth”, it said in a statement.
