Kellen Moore to start for Cowboys in Week 16
Mickey Spagnola said, “Well that’s that Dallas Cowboys had been hanging on a thread in the NFC East for the better part of the month”.
“I’ve been 6 feet and 200 pounds for a long time, so I know who I am”, Moore said after the Jets loss. “Playoffs or not, we have to string some games together”. “It’s a good time to start playing good football”. “We’re on our way to becoming one of those type of teams if we can keep it up”.
Fitzpatrick had a few passes come close to being intercepted, and was below his best, but a 43-yard pass to Kenbrell Thompkins helped the Jets (9-5) notch their first 4-game win streak since 2010. If one caught it, the game was over.
Jets kicker Randy Bullock atoned for a missed extra point and field goal by nailing a 40-yarder with 36 seconds remaining for the win.
Something special is happening to them even if nobody is quite sure how to explain it. There’s an intangible quality to the Jets – a “mental toughness”, as Todd Bowles puts it – that makes them unsafe this time of year.
The Jets are doing what winners do: Find a way to take care of business no matter the aesthetics. A series of runs set up Bullock’s game-deciding kick.
“Kind of had tough sledding for a while”, Fitzpatrick said. He had four grabs for a team-high 74 yards. Some, such as Rich Gannon of Sirius XM NFL Radio, pegged the team for a total of just four wins.
It’s been an all too regular occurrence for the Cowboys this season with Cassel under center. “For some teams it works out and you get to play in the playoffs”.
Ryan Fitzpatrick enjoyed a strong outing with 299 yards and a touchdown, while Kellen Moore had replaced the struggling Matt Cassel earlier for the Cowboys.
Despite clear better play from Moore than Cassel, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett wouldn’t commit on Saturday night to giving Moore the final two games to audition for next season. He finished 3 of 8 for 37 yards with the pick. His final interception sealed the Jets’ victory.
The Jets’ feel-good December has been far from ideal. “We continued what we learned from the Giants game and played a good second half”. But a touchdown pass to Dez Bryant soon after gave the Cowboys a 10-9 halftime lead. It’s only near-perfect because Fitzpatrick almost fumbled the ball away on a third-and-1 while diving for the first down on a no-huddle play. “We didn’t blow the game like we did in Buffalo”. Red zone play has been disgusting to watch. Cowboys RB Darren McFadden had 100 yards on 16 carries – his fifth 100-yard game of the season….
After faking a throw and stumbling when he tried to change directions, Cassel threw blindly to a spot where Darrelle Revis was by himself for an easy interception.
The turnover did not end up costing the Cowboys.
His first completion lost a yard.
The Jets did not stall on their next march.
After completing passes to Marshall, Decker and Enunwa on the previous drive, this one would start with another option, Bilal Powell, who would finish the night with 7 receptions for 54 yards, but was stopped behind the line for a 1-yard loss to start the drive.
