Kentucky clerk still in contempt of gay marriage order: plaintiffs
“And I was real good at livin’ for the devil”. When I look at you I see George Wallace – and so does the Supreme Court. That is her only option, and were he alive today, Thomas Jefferson would say the same thing. Davis, who was elected as a Democrat in November, said she has friend who are gay, and they agree to disagree. When she returned to work, she altered the licenses to say they were issued under the authority of the federal court.
“My constituents elected me”. But she said that she’s been forgiven, that godly authority trumps all, and that she won’t resign her position. I’m good at my job.
Davis said that she has gay friends, adding that “we’re okay because we respect each other”. The objective of a marriage license is to indicate to the government that the two of you are a couple, with all the rights, responsibilities and privileges that entails.
The motion is the latest in a federal lawsuit that centers on Davis’s opposition to her name appearing on the licenses of any same-sex couples or any appearance that she authorizes those marriages. Reporter: And there are thousands of others who feel the same way. What world is she not in anymore?
“What people say about me does not define who I am”. I’ve been called hypocrite. Ive been called homophobe …
Renegade county clerk Kim Davis burst into tears recounting how marriage equality supporters have called her a hypocrite, and that her detractors have hurt her feelings by claiming “that my God does not love me or that my God is not happy with me”.
She has since become a darling of radical right-wingers – with Republican Presidential hopefuls Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee both scrambling to be seen at her side.
If Davis refuses, the lawyers have asked the judge to put the office in receivership and have someone else do it. “Nor should Plaintiffs and members of the putative class have to endure the humiliation and stigma associated with the receipt of marriage licenses that are effectively imprinted with Davis’ opprobrium”. Your name is not on those licenses. “They want her scalp to hand on the wall as a trophy”. What’s hurt you the most?’ Faris asks in a preview (watch here).
The GMA interview continues as Davis shows Faris the many letters of support from her followers, but also hate mail filled with vulgar and sometimes vicious words. Under Kentucky law, legislative approval is required to make such a change. Since she’s back at work and not hiding from the cameras, what did she mean by this statement? I’ve had people yelling and screaming and cussing me. Nor did the new form mention her name or references to a “deputy clerk”. Licenses. She is prepared to go back to jail. “However, the fundamental power that guidelines my life is the Lord”, she said.
