Kentucky residents killed in boating accident on Lake Lanier
Rescue divers have recovered the bodies of two of four Kentuckians who were killed Friday afternoon in a boating accident on Lake Lanier in northern Georgia.
The women were identified as 45-year-old Melissa Renee McMahan and 44-year-old Tammy Reece were located overnight, said Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials said Saturday.
The boat was a 38-foot, tunnel-hull, racing style vessel, according to Adams.
Divers recovered the bodies of Melissa McMahan and Tammy Reece overnight, and continue to search for the two missing men.
NewsChopper 2 showed a boat partially submerged near an island in the southeast corner of the lake.
Adams said Hall County Fire Services’ Marine Rescue Team “exhausted all of their diving supplies”.
Investigators are still trying to figure out what happened to cause the boat to flip, however, witnesses told officials that the boat encountered a boat wake and then turned over. “It was traveling down the lake at a decent speed”.
The latest drownings on Lake Lanier are just a few of the many deadly incidents on Georgia’s waters in 2016. “A lot of people come into town as early as Monday or Tuesday”.
