Kenya boat capsize: two dead, dozens missing
Cape Town – Dozens of people are believed to be missing after two boats collided on the Kenyan side of Lake Victoria early on Wednesday.
The Kenya Red Cross took part in the rescue effort and tweeted photos of its team giving first aid and counselling to survivors. Police from nearby Nyandiwa, Mgingo and Remba islands also provided assistance as the victims were transported to nearby Kiwa Island.
“The bodies of the two children aged four and two years have been retrieved”. Additionally, two children were confirmed dead: Fatou Bensouda, 2, as well as Eda Anyango, 4. The Daily Nation newspaper named them as Eda Anyango, four, and two-year-old Fatou Bensouda, who were travelling with their mother to Kisumu. Lugusa said 21 people from the passenger boat have been rescued.
A boat has capsized in Lake Victoria in western Kenya, with lives feared lost in the accident.
