Kerry, in Norway, sees Iran FM over nuke deal sanctions
Iran’s foreign minister says solutions to combat “the global war” on extremism require “a lot of soul-searching”.
He stressed the need of looking at political solutions to the problems and underlying problems in his region.
U.S, Secretary of State John Kerry speaks at Oslo Forum in Oslo, Norway.
“The Americans have not carried out an important part of their commitments”, the Leader said.
He indicated that US patience with Syria and its Russian and Iranian allies was wearing thin.
While the nuclear accord came into force in January, Iran has complained about the failure of some of the parties, especially the USA, to fully implement the deal.
The United States must do more to encourage banks to do business with Iran following the lifting of sanctions, Iran’s foreign minister said on Tuesday, a day before meeting his US counterpart.
Meanwhile, the European Union’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said that the EU was engaging with companies and banks to do business in Iran following the signing of the nuclear deal.
During the meeting, Kerry and Zarif also addressed the ongoing crisis in Syria, according to the State Department. He said any “psychological remnants” hindering legal business with Iran are related to Iranian behavior.
Kerry told reporters he has repeatedly explained to the Iranians that there are limits on what the United States can do to encourage businesses to deal with Iran and said he thought “the supreme leader and Foreign Minister Zarif are pressing to make sure” Iran gets what it is entitled to under the deal “as rapidly as possible”. “That’s what makes business nervous”.
