Kerry says US and Russia in agreement over basic points regarding Syria
US Secretary of State John Kerry has defended President Barack Obama’s decision not to attack Syria more than two years ago because diplomacy was able to prevail.
Another meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry may be held on September 30.
He said that the Americans confirmed that it was absolutely their position that the territorial integrity, unity, and sovereignty of Syria, Iraq and all other countries in the region, is their priority, and on this basis we can cooperate. Russian Federation has also maintained that there is no solid proof that Damascus was behind the attacks. “I think we have concerns about how we are going to go forward”.
“Now how in the wake of Britain’s Parliament deciding no in a democratic fashion, with congressmen screaming, you’ve got to come to us, can the president decide to stiff democracy in America and say no?” The Obama administration announced in August 2014 that the stockpile of declared Syrian chemical weapons had been destroyed.
President Vladimir Putin is expected to lead the Russian delegation and will address the General Assembly about the crises in Ukraine and Syria as well as the global fight against terrorism.
The U.S.is leading a coalition of over 60 countries to combat Daesh in Syria and Iraq, while Russian Federation has reportedly been deploying heavy weaponry to an airbase outside of the Syrian coastal city of Latakia for a possible offensive against the extremist group.
