Kerry Washington: “My Body Is the Site of a Miracle Now”
If you think congratulating Kerry Washington on “getting back” to her pre-baby body is a compliment, it’s not. I get to go: Where is my body today?
Now that I’ve been playing Olivia Pope for 4 years I feel like she’s taught me so much about who I want to be in some ways, and who I don’t want to be. “I feel like you’re back, ‘” she told Self magazine. “I try really hard not to use that language, because it’s not about going backward in life.’ I’ve been really focused on not being ‘back” to anything, but being the best version of myself right now. It’s important to have rest days.
Speaking of Scandal, Kerry says she owes a big part of her do-it-all mentality to her beloved character Olivia Pope. “But in the long run, if I don’t work out for, like, three days, I feel worse, not better”, she explains.
That said, she’s no stranger to working out.
To add some sanity to her day-to-day routine, she makes sure to wake up extremely early to open up free time later in the day to cuddle with her husband, NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, daughter and Shih Tzu-Yorkie mix. Characters come into my life sometimes when I need to learn something from them. “I have more of a sense of my capacity to do anything”.
In an interview with “SELF” magazine, she revealed: “I’m such a lightweight that if I drink, it takes me a couple of days to recover”. But despite the fact that she hits the Scandal set’s private Pilates studio two to six times a week to maintain that shape, the actress said she has no desire to return to her pre-baby body.
