Kesha vs. Dr. Luke: Judge Rules in Sony’s Favor
Kesha, the singer behind “Tik Tok” and “Die Young”, has lost in her court battle to be allowed to record outside of her contracts with Sony and producer Dr. Luke, the man she has accused of raping her a decade ago.
Attorney Christine Lepera said in a statement, “We are pleased with the court’s decision from the bench fully denying Ms. Sebert’s motion for a preliminary injunction”.
His abuse led her to develop an eating disorder and suicidal thoughts that prompted two months in a rehabilitation clinic in 2014, her lawyers said.
Dr Luke’s lawyers have argued that the singer is trying to extort him to get out of her contract.
Despite her attempts to break free, Kesha has always been locked into a recording contract with Dr. Luke and Sony.
A New York City judge has ruled that Kesha will not be able to leave her contract at Sony, however she may work with a different producer so long as it’s in the same company.
The judge said the evidence against Dr. Luke is insufficient, as there are no hospital records or other medical evidence to support Kesha’s assault allegations.
Kesha’s legal team did not immediately respond to EW’s requests for comment. However, the judge did say there was vagueness in Kesha’s counterclaims.
But the ruling doesn’t end the platinum-selling singer’s clash with hitmaker Dr. Luke, who denies her claims and says she’s smearing him to try to shirk her contract.
During their professional relationship, Kesha alleges that Dr Luke abused and assaulted for years.
Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich turned down the request, saying Kesha “is being given the opportunity to record”.
Meanwhile, ahead of the court hearing, the 28-year-old singer took to Instagram to insist she had “nothing left to hide”.
