Kevin De Bruyne: ‘Jose Mourinho only spoke to me twice at Chelsea’
De Bruyne said, although you can rest assured he’ll be hoping for a full debut sooner rather than later, he doesn’t think it’s a bad thing that Manuel Pellegrini is easing him into the first-team. He is likely to start for the Citizens as they prepare to host the Hammers tomorrow.
He is thus relishing his second chance in the Premier League.
De Bruyne has stated that a lack of communication with Mourinho sped up his Stamford Bridge exit.
“I saw bits of their game against Newcastle on Monday because we were in the team hotel and from what I saw, they played pretty well on the night”, he was quoted as saying by his club’s site. It’s probably twice the size of Wolfsburg’s Volkswagen Arena and the atmosphere was also very good, but I think it will be even better in certain games this season. So for me personally, it was better to go.
De Bruyne is keen on making an impact on the EPL since joining City from Wolfsburg for a record fee of £55 million.
“I was nineteen when I signed and then worked with three managers and just didn’t play that much”.
“It took a long time, but I just stayed professional, trained every day and eventually it was ok”. “I just needed to go so that things could be better for me personally”.
Jose Mourinho had plenty to say about Kevin De Bruyne this summer when he explained why he dumped him. You want to hear about the project and the finances, but I was clear with City and was just waiting for the deal to be done.
And as for earning a reported £250k-a-week, he said: “You know there is going to be a lot of pressure”.
His compatriot Vincent Kompany this week described De Bruyne as “the most English Belgian” he has known and said: “You guys [England] should have got to him first“. “I’ve only Belgian nationality. That was maybe the biggest part that went wrong”. I would still have been a young player coming back from a small club to a big club and I would have had to prove myself all over again.
Speaking to mcfc.co.uk ahead of West Ham’s visit to the Etihad Stadium the Belgium global admitted he was disappointed, obviously, City were beaten in the Champions League by Juventus on his home debut but he was delighted with the reception he was given.
