Kevin Durant bags second straight NBA Finals MVP
Durant’s Game 4 triple-double came on the heels of a ridiculous 43-point night in Game 3.
Get out the broom, because the Golden State Warriors just swept the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the NBA Championship! It’s still euphoric. But three years ago it was, ‘I can’t believe this happened.’ Now, I can believe it happened.
Kevin Durant was named Finals MVP for the second year in a row, the sixth player to accomplish the feat.
“It’s just about the journey, all season”, Durant said. The way we played, the calls that were made throughout the course of that game.
Think the Trail Blazers still regret drafting Greg Oden No. 1 in the 2007 draft instead of Durant, who went No. 2?
“When you play one of the best it brings the best out of you as well”, Durant said of playing against James. “You knew he was built for greatness from the time that he was drafted”. With LeBron entering free agency in the 2018 off-season, and many speculating he would leave Cleveland, many fans believed this was King James’s last game as a Cavalier.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are just one game away from elimination from the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors. Should the Warriors sweep, Curry would seemingly need to have a huge outburst, combined with a slow night for Durant, if he wants to win the award for the first time.
Congrats to the Warriors, they played with more effort and the will of a championship team. They hit 17 threes in Game 3 against Boston, but otherwise have been ice cold. But that’s as far as he went with the no-pressure thing.
“I came back because I felt like I had some unfinished business”, LeBron said. In Game 3, he re-aggravated an ankle injury he sustained during the Eastern Conference Finals.
“It’s good for you to be around guys like this, it makes you a better basketball player and a better man”.
Again, in this series, “I don’t necessarily agree with that” counts as a fight.
“Absolutely, there were doubts”, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.
Cleveland managed to force a Game 5 in last year’s Finals but they were led by Kyrie Irving then, who ended with 40 points that night. Durant made four of them in Game 3, and Curry and James have also done it in this series.
The Spurs? Nah, they are less a dynasty than a machine of metronomic consistency that reaches the very top, on average, once every three or four years. I could find guys to guard.
Finally, LeBron emerged from the locker room and turned right down the hall. “We were going through so much”.
