Kevin Durant to practice with Team USA, per report
Some encouraging news on the Kevin Durant health front: he won’t be playing in the exhibition game, but his representatives tell USA Today’s Sam Amick that the 2014 league MVP is going to participate in practice with Team USA this week in Las Vegas.
“USA Basketball”, a behind-the-scenes look at a USA Basketball Men’s National Team practice will air at 2 p.m. It will be Durant’s first organized practice since a nagging foot injury sidelined him for the season.
While both Durant and Anthony are expected to participate they won’t be able to do everything during this three day camp. Durant will not, however, take part in the showcase game on Thursday at UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center.
The extensively veteran roster is comprised of 34 players, including LeBron James and 11 of last year’s 12-man FIBA World Cup team (Derrick Rose is the exception), and seven newcomers: Jimmy Butler (Bulls), Michael Carter-Williams (Bucks), Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green (Warriors), Mike Conley (Grizzlies) and Tobian Harris and Victor Oladipo (Magic).
Kevin Durant is headed for another milestone on his road to recovery from a stress fracture in his right foot.
Despite fears of re-aggravating his injury, the Thunder have endorsed Durant’s Olympic bid. In March, he decided to undergo surgery to completely relieve the pain. “We are excited he is at the point where he can take part in portions of the minicamp, as he has demonstrated great focus throughout his recovery efforts”.
As for Team USA, Durant is a lock if he wants on board.
