Kevin Ward family files wrongful death lawsuit against Tony Stewart
As he was out for final practice, news broke that the family of Kevin Ward Jr. filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Stewart. The suit alleges that Stewart behaved recklessly during a caution period in an Empire Sprint Series race last year at Canandaigua Speedway.
He said: ‘I want to be available to them if they want to talk about it, ‘ he said. A wheel from Stewart’s vehicle inadvertently struck Ward, launching him into the air as parents Kevin Sr. and Pamela watched in horror. The parents go on to claim that Stewart chose to “terrorize” Ward on the track, stemming from an ongoing feud between the competing racers. The night went awry when contact from Stewart’s winged, open-wheel vehicle sent Ward’s Sprinter spinning into a wall. He missed three Sprint Cup races before resuming his season.
Despite the gruff exterior and the growl he’s known for throughout a decorated NASCAR career, Stewart is actually sensitive and tries hard to avoid situations that can set him off. He never read any of the articles that vilified him for his role in the death of a young, aspiring race auto driver. “I don’t know how anybody could ever be back to exactly the way they were”.
In his dual role as a veteran driver and part-owner at Stewart-Haas Racing, Stewart is excited about the creation of the new race-team alliance. Instead, family and friends gathered for Ward’s funeral on August. 14 at South Lewis Senior High School, from which Ward was graduated in 2012.
In five road course starts in the ARCA Racing Series, Buescher earned one win (Road America, 2013) and three top-five finishes.
“I’m not going to lie, it is a stressful weekend for us because we all have the same expectations”, Burns said.
“I type of snicker as a result of everyone initially stated ‘Oh Marcos is not right here, this must be straightforward for you.’ ” Allmendinger stated. That being said, I know the pain that Kevin Ward’s family is experiencing is something that I can’t even imagine.
1995 – Stewart is the first driver to win the Midget, the Sprint and the Silver Crown all in one season. “I think there are always positives that come out of every scenario”.
As the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rolls into Watkins Glen this weekend there are plenty of compelling story lines, but perhaps none bigger than the buzz surrounding one of NASCAR’s elite, Jeff Gordon.
Sunday afternoon’s Cheez-It 355 at The Glen offers the chance at twice the payoff for some top road course guys whose NASCAR Sprint Cup playoff hopes are still up in the air. The challenges are distinctive, however the hottest driver in NASCAR – Kyle Busch – must be as much as them.
